Professional development and other activities for educators and other school personnel will be provided to the 108 school districts in Area IV to increase their awareness of and sensitivity to the needs of homeless children and youth and the rights of such children under the McKinney Act. Also, direct support services will be provided to homeless children and youth attending schools in Area IV through subgrants awarded to local education agencies (LEAs). The lead Area IV liaison will also encourage school district liaisons to participate in their local HUD Continuum of Care and coordinate services for homeless children and youth with other service providers in their area. Coordination with the school districts will be through the Regional Offices of Education located in Area IV. These offices include: ROE #9 – Champaign/Ford, ROE #11 – Clark/Coles/Cumberland/Douglas/Edgar/Moultrie/Shelby, ROE #17 – Dewitt/Livingston/McLean, ROE #32 – Iroquois/Kankakee, ROE #39 – Macon/Piatt, and ROE #54 – Vermilion. |
