A Guide for Shelter Staff
Illinois McKinney-Vento Opening Doors Technical
Assistance Project has developed “A Guide for Shelter Staff About School
Enrollment and Services.” Shelter staff are in a unique position to
help children and their families and unaccompanied youth learn about
their educational rights and school services and supports under the
McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Program in Illinois. This quick
reference guide is a tool that shelter staff can use to assist families
to keep their children in school.

find the homeless liaison for your school district. Once you reach the
locator, click on the school district for which you need a liaison and a
small box will open on the right side with information on contacting
both the liaison and the school district administrator. If you need
additional assistance, you can reach any of the Lead Homeless Liaisons
by clicking on the
map link
on the ISBE Homeless Education page or contact
the State Coordinator 1-800-215-6379. |
